Backstage in the hospitality area of Glastonbury; Nick Cave is finishing a blistering set (has his band been instructed to grow as much facial hair as possible to compensate for his male pattern baldness?), but here everyone is doing the Backstage Swivel. It’s easy. Just engage in conversation with the person or people you are with, but constantly swivel your attention to those on the left of you, those on the right of you and those in the middle distance, in the hope of spotting someone famous.
I’ve done a bit of it myself: so far tonight I have spotted Radio 1′s Zane Lowe, Pixie Geldof and the Prodigy. It’s all a bit embarrassing though (not to mention tough on the neck muscles), so I think we should head out to the Other Stage and catch a bit of Glasvegas. Anyway, the Kidz’ area is just as good for star-spotting – in the NCT tent I happened across Rufus Hound and the tanned bloke out of Homes Under The Hammer changing their nippers’ nappies!
