We’re getting excited about one of the early festivals of the season, and it’s only two months away now! Strummercamp is a bit of a secret, unless you are a hardcore Clash/Mescaleros fan, but it’s been running new for five years and by all accounts is a fantastic weekend among likeminded folks and Clash-inspired sounds. It’s run from 28-30 May at the Manchester Rugby Club.
Joe Strummer was the closest thing I have to a musical hero, he opened my ears to so many different sounds and The Clash got me thinking politically in new ways that have inspired me ever since I was a teeny punklet, so I’ve been meaning to get to Strummercamp ever since I heard about it. Looks like this year I’ll finally get to go. The lineup is stronger than ever: Spear of Destiny, the Blockheads, Vic Godard, even reformed UK hardcore act The Stupids will be making an appearance.
There’s real ales and a vegetarian cafe onsite, and even better news is that kids are more than welcome at the festival and accompanied children over 10 cost just £10 (under-10s free). It’s a bijou and inexpensive festival, with weekend camping tickets for adults just £59.50 and day tickets £35.
